The main difference between a 2-digit and 3-digit breathalyser is the resolution of the reading, not necessarily the sensor quality.

2-Digit Breathalyser

Displays results to two decimal places, for example:

0.04

0.05

This provides a general indication of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and is suitable for basic personal use.

3-Digit Breathalyser

Displays results to three decimal places, for example:

0.041

0.053

This offers a more detailed reading and allows you to see smaller changes in alcohol levels over time.

Does 3 Digits Mean More Accurate?

Not necessarily.

Accuracy depends primarily on:

1. The sensor type (fuel cell vs semiconductor)

2. Calibration status

3. Overall device quality

A 3-digit breathalyser may simply display more decimal places, while the underlying accuracy could be similar to a 2-digit model. However, higher-end breathalysers often combine a fuel-cell sensor with 3-digit resolution, making them both more precise and more accurate
